It is no surprise there will be a third Hangover. The comedy series has grossed over $1 billion worldwide, despite poor reviews of this past summer’s sequel. A writer was soon brought on for a third, but we haven’t heard much regarding a timeframe. We’ve finally received some confirmation from the film’s big star, Bradley Cooper.
Speaking to The National Ledger (via Moviehole), the actor said the he hopes shooting will begin next September and that instead of an international trip, they’d be returning to California. He also confirmed director Todd Phillips is working on the script,” presumably with The Hangover Part II‘s co-writer Craig Mazin. Cooper added, “we stuck to the formula in the second one but the third would need to close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place in L.A. and not adhere to the structure.”
Hints were dropped during the press tour this summer, with Zach Galifianakis saying the film may involve the duo breaking his character out of a mental institution. There was also rumors that the film would go even darker, finding some of our characters dead…or have them all head to Amsterdam. It is all speculation at this point, but I like that everyone is on board with ending this trilogy and not churning out endless sequels. Even Part II felt completely unnecessary, but as I enjoy these characters, I would be interested to see how they change up the structure for the finale.
If a September shoot goes ahead as planned, expect to see this film arrive in theaters during summer 2013.
