Literally within arms reach right now, I have The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford on Blu-ray and Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 (one of my favorite movies and my favorite video game). So when Showbiz Spy reported that Brad Pitt was interested in adapting the western shooting game into a movie, I got really excited.
The video game tells the story of John Marston, a gunslinger looking to take down his former cohorts who betrayed him. It has an enormous story suggesting the movie would be in the “epic” category. Reports say that Pitt might star in the film.
Marston is a mysterious and intriguing character (albeit a little stereotypical in the game). One needs to look no farther than Pitt‘s interpretation of Jesse James to see he is more than qualified to bring this to life. It is almost too easy. With that said, there would no doubt be comparisons drawn to the Assassination of Jesse James, a film that is technically one of the best ever, with an amazing supporting cast. In order to get noticed, Pitt would need to assemble an especially talented team. But I hope he does, and I hope this one comes together.
Have you played the game? Could this help the genre of video game adaptations?
