Late last week news arrived that following virtually back-to-back productions on Enemy and Prisoners, Denis Villeneuve will attempt the same feat with his next projects. In early 2015 he’ll kick off shooting on the Amy Adams-led Story of Your Life, but first, this fall, the director will begin work on the crime thriller Sicario.
Led by Emily Blunt, the story features a loophole in which mercenaries are legally allowed to cross the border of Mexico in order to bring in a drug lord, with the actress playing a Tucson-based female cop who escorts two rangers to apprehend a drug kingpin. The Wrap now reports that Benicio del Toro is in final talks for the project, taking the role of “an assassin hired by the U.S. government to help bring down the Cartels, which are responsible for the death of his family.” Penned by Taylor Sheridan, the prospects are enticing, so check back for more casting as it comes in.
Next up, after last year’s 47 Ronin and Man of Tai Chi, Keanu Reeves has found his next leading role. We learned of Eli Roth‘s next directorial project Knock Knock earlier this year, as he reteamed with his Aftershock duo of Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo on the script. Deadline now reports that The Matrix star will lead the project, which follows two girls (Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas) who seduce a married man (Reeves) and see his life crumble. Production kicks off a week from today for a likely 2015 release.
In related news, one of Reeves’ earlier hits is getting the remake treatment and we’ve got new casting on the project. Approaching its 25th anniversary, Kathryn Bigelow‘s Reeves and Patrick Swayze actioner Point Break will be directed by Fast & Furious cinematographer Ericson Core. With Gerard Butler set to lead in the role originated by Swayze and Luke Bracey taking over for Reeves, Variety now reports that Ray Winstone has stepped into the shoes of Gary Busey, who played Reeves’ older partner. This new version will take on a global canvas, as opposed to just the California setting of the original, and principal photography begins in June.
Lastly, Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man has added to its villain as Deadline reports 
Matt Gerald (Avatar) has stepped in for an undisclosed role on the evil side. He’ll be joining Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson, Corey Stoll and Michael Peña in the Marvel blockbuster that opens next July.
