Over the past month, the cast for Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines has settled in nicely. Ryan Gosling, who starred in Cianfrance‘s Blue Valentine, was the first to be confirmed way back when, but more recently, the castings of Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig, and Eva Mendes have fused the project with even more anticipation. The most recent addition is now Ben Mendelsohn, who burst onto the screen with relentless fury in David Michod‘s chilling Animal Kingdom. [Variety]
Mendelsohn will play the character of Robin Van Der Zee — “a mechanic who who takes [Gosling’s character] into his bank robbing operation.” To remind you of further details, here’s a brief description of the storyline:
The film centers on Luke (Gosling), a motorcycle stunt rider who turns to robbing banks to support his son, but winds up crossing paths with a police officer-turned-politician (Cooper), kicking off a simmering generational feud. Mendes will play the mother of Gosling’s child, while Gerwig is stand beside Cooper as wife.
Filming on this extremely promising project will begin on July 25th in Schenectady, NY. In addition to this film, the up-and-coming Mendelsohn in also set to appear in Trespass, The Killer Elite, and Andrew Dominik‘s much-anticipated Cogan’s Trade.
