Avatar star Sam Worthington is rumored to star in a new vampire flick for director Alex Proyas, Latino Review reports. Their scoop details Universal’s need for big films next summer. They have 14 films “ready to go” with scripts and directors, but need 8. Near the top of the list is a a film titled Dracula: Year Zero, which is a “period retelling” of the Dracula story. It is reported that the film has a budget of over $100, which is not nearly as much as the $165 they payed for The Wolfman, which comes out in a few weeks. Alex Proyas, who was behind Knowing, Dark City and I, Robot has been attached to direct for almost two years now. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (who are behind the upcoming Flash Gordon) also wrote the script almost 4 years go.Stop with the vampire films, please Hollywood. Alex Proyas would bring a good visual style to the material, but I would love to see  Sam Worthington to something else, especially after his Avatar success. Proyas has big ideas, as seen in Knowing and I wish he wouldn’t stoop to vampire fiction. If they are making the film can we at least drop the Dracula: Year Zero title?

What do you think about Sam Worthington as a vampire?
