Although it features the alternate history of one of our greatest presidents, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn the latest film from Timur Bekmambetov is tracking much better overseas. His flashy visual style continues for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, after his Wanted garnered more box office in foreign markets than here in the United States. 20th Century Fox is taking note for his next film, as 24 Frames reports of some title changes overseas.
While some are just getting small switches like President Lincoln: Vampire Hunter or Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the Tim Burton-produced period actioner is going under quite different names in other countries. Italy will know it by The Legend of the Vampire Hunter and Portugal, my clear favorite, will have the title Secret Diary of the Vampire Hunter.
Despite sounding like a show on the Disney Channel, the film is far from it as we can see in a new trailer coming from Bekmambetov‘s homeland. This Russian tease gives us a few more glimpses of our lead Benjamin Walker, along with a new angle of some of the large setpieces. There is, however, no secret diary writing to be found. Check it out below via Twitch.
The film explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, also starring Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, Rufus Sewell and Erin Wasson and Dominic Cooper, hits theaters June 22nd.
