Just over a month before it was set to open we got the surprising news that Paramount had lifted their only summer blockbuster, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, out of its late June slot and placed it far away in March of the following year. The reasons were to convert to 3D and rejigger the film in order to add more of the now major star Channing Tatum. With marketing starting back up again for the film, we’ve now got a new theatrical trailer.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never), my hope for this one lies in a script from the talented Zombieland duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but unfortunately this trailer packs mostly the same beats as the previous looks. Tatum is indeed given more screentime with a new line, but it seems as though Paramount is relying on their big action setpieces, which seems about right for a film like this. Backed by a Lupe Fiasco track, check it out below for the film also starring D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson.

Synopsis:

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation arrives on March 29th, 2013.
