He’s been the longest-running single actor to take on a comic book character, but this spring Hugh Jackman will finally be hanging up his Wolverine claws in his ninth and final outing: Logan. With James Mangold returning to direct, the full-length red band trailer has arrived, which shows Logan well past his prime as the blood reigns down. Set to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, we can expect the first reactions in a few weeks.
“Making an adult film, trying not to please everyone with one movie,” Mangold tells Fandango as what sets this apart from other superhero films. “Making a film that invests itself first in drama. Making a film where it isn’t about whether the villain will destroy the world. I am so over that. I do not want to go to every movie and wonder whether my world is going to exist. It’s just about the characters.”
Also starring Sienna Novikov, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Patrick Stewart, check out the trailer and poster below.
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Logan opens on March 3, 2017.
