From this summer’s Joss Whedon-directed Much Ado About Nothing to Ralph FiennesCoriolanus to even Roland Emmerich‘s Anonymous, William Shakespeare is long dead, but not forgotten in the recent world of Hollywood. Another adaptation of his work is landing this summer and we’ve got the first trailer this afternoon. Directed by Italy’s Carlo Carlei, this new take on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet has quite the pedigree in terms of cast and script, coming from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.

With an ensemble including Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, as well as Homeland‘s Damian Lewis, Ed Westwick, Paul Giamatti and Stellan Skarsgård, unfortunately the footage in this trailer seems to sway into flavorless territory. While I’m not expecting any Baz Luhrmann-esque touches, hopefully the final product provides a worthy reason to retell this story. One can see the trailer below thanks to Digital Spy and the film in UK theaters on July 26th, with no U.S. distribution yet.
