Uh oh. Michael Bay‘s films are perfect when condensed into short promotional snippets (see: the great Super Bowl spot for Transformers: Dark of the Moon). The director certainly knows how to create excitement, but when his characters begin to interact and talk with one another, it tends to fall apart. With that, we have the first piece of dialogue for his upcoming finale to the Transformers saga.
In this spot made for Nascar (via /Film), John Turturro warns of the planet-wide attack then Shia LaBeouf tells Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (his new love interest) “you’ll be fine, I promise.” I know we shouldn’t judge things based on short snippets, but it is all we currently have. The scope of the battle hinted at could be fun, but if the film is filled with scenes of LaBeouf protecting/warning/saving Huntington-Whiteley (who looks to be nothing more than a prop), it could get tiresome. Watch the spot underneath and post your thoughts below.
Synopsis: The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon hits theaters on July 1st, 2011.
What do you think of the spot? Is there reason to worry?
