Some fists were raised earlier this year when the first trailer for an adaptation of Lois Lowry‘s middle school staple The Giver landed and there wasn’t a single black-and-white frame to be found. It looks like that was simply a test for The Weinstein Company, who are now heavily pushing forth the color adjustment with a new trailer.

Led by newcomer Brenton Thwaites, he plays Jonas, a teenager living in a seemingly utopian world before that soon crumbles when he learns about his community’s dark past. As a major fan of the source material, at least growing up, hopefully this adaptation does it justice, even if the preview is a bit lackluster. Check it out below for the film also starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep which comes from director Phillip Noyce (Salt, Patriot Games).

The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

The Giver opens on August 15th, 2014.
