After years of metaphorically (and perhaps, physically, in some cases) taking a dump in front of audiences with his studio offerings, is Adam Sandler turning things around? Not long after cashing his Grown Ups 2 check, the comedian has joined the next drama from Jason Reitman, shooting this fall, and now another promising project has landed on his lap.

According to THR, writer-director Thomas McCarthy, coming off Win Win, is in talks to direct Sandler in new drama titled The Cobbler. While not many details are known, he’ll play the title character in the fantastical tale, who gains the “ability to metaphysically step into the lives of the people whose shoes he repairs.”

Since McCarthy’s Catholic Church sex scandal film Spotlight has been delayed until late next year, due to DreamWorks dropping it, this $10 million production is aiming to kick off soon, before Reitman’s film. Considering McCarthy is able to wrangle some of the career-best performances of actors he’s worked with (Richard Jenkins in The VisitorPeter Dinklage in The Station Agent), hopefully the trend continues with Sandler.

Are you looking forward to seeing McCarthy direct Sandler?
