While Christopher Nolan‘s development on the eagerly awaited Batman 3 has been slow and steady, the past few days have offered up a handful of buzz-worthy nuggets of information that should help the reality of the project sink in. However, the details being offered up contradict one another: Deadline New York is reporting that the film will be presented in 3-D, whereas Batman-On-Film reported (via The Wall Street Journal) that the film will be shot entirely in IMAX, with no mention of 3-D use.

Otherwise, on an official note, /Film has brought news to the interwebs that Warner Bros. has announced a release date for the Caped Crusader’s third outing: July 20th, 2012.

As far as Deadline’s news goes, I feel Nolan is a better filmmaker than to fall victim to the gimmicky nature in 3-D film releases. That said, neither Batman Begins nor The Dark Knight had no need for 3-D presentation, as their world’s did not offer up anything as otherworldly as something like Avatar. The IMAX news, on the other hand, I can totally get behind (It was hard to restrain my excitement when seeing that opening frame of Gotham City in The Dark Knight). With a release date set, one can only hope that script details get released soon, not to mention a forthcoming confirmation of Nolan’s status as director. Fingers crossed.

Are you for or against a 3-D Batman 3? And what of the IMAX? Has the July release amped you up more for the third installment, or does it still feel like limbo to you?
