After dabbling in such feature films such as Gamer and the upcoming Kill Your Darlings, Michael C. Hall will have much more of an open schedule come summer, when Showtime concludes his long-running serial killer series Dexter. For his first feature following its conclusion he’ll be playing a (wait for it…) killer.
This time, however, it is a protagonist that doesn’t have dark intentions. First revealed earlier this month, Deadline reports that Hall has landed the lead role in Jim Mickle’s follow-up to his horror feature We Are What We Are. Titled Cold In July, the director impressed us with his previous film, and now he’s set to adapt Joe Lansdale‘s novel, which follows a man (Hall) who kills an armed burglar in self-defense, but the burglar’s father wants justice. Production kicks off (fittingly) this July for a likely 2014 release.
In other casting news, Marvel is continuing to expand its random/alluring cast for the space epic Guardians of the Galaxy. Having already assembled Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker word has come in from various sources that Glenn Close has signed for a leadership role in Nova Corp, the intergalactic space patrol.
Directed by James Gunn, HitFix broke news earlier this week that John C. Reilly was lining up the role of Rhomann Dey, an Agent Coulson of sorts in this universe and he’s now been confirmed. They also claim Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe are all be looked at for a character who is is a liason to the Guardians, but regardless if any of them join, it’s shaping up to quite a varied cast. Expect confirmation soon as a summer production kicks off momentarily for an August 2014 release.
What do you think of Hall’s next feature? What about the Guardians casting?
