Kid stars Mackenzie Foy and Joey King will be haunted this year, thanks to New Line and director James Wan. The doll-faced actresses have signed on to star in The Warren Files – formerly titled The Conjuring – a horror film based on the real-life paranormal happenings surrounding the Perron family in the 1970s. The two join cast members Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston. [Variety]
Similar to The Amityville Horror, the Perrons reported numerous eyewitness accounts of supernatural phenomenon within their Rhode Island home, a historic farmhouse allegedly cursed by a witch. The incidents, some of which included physical attacks and an attempted demonic possession, prompted them to hire famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to investigate the case. Farmiga and Wilson will play the Warrens, while Taylor, Livingston, Foy and King will portray the Perrons.
Wan has previous experience terrorizing children in his 2010 film Insidious – which, according to recent reports, is getting a sequel – but the juvenile additions are no strangers to creepy films. Foy plays Renesmee Cullen, the half-vampire daughter of Bella and Edward, in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2, and King has a small part in The Dark Knight Rises.
Shooting on The Warren Files is scheduled to start later this month in North Carolina.
