We’ve got some back-to-back Arnie news for you today. After the first look arrived of the star on the set of his next action film Ten, we’ve got a new update as he plans to return to the action franchise that gave him his Hollywood star status, continuing the adventures of Conan the Barbarian.

As we know, Conan got a reboot with the Jason Momoa-led bomb last summer, but Universal has said this new film, titled The Legend Of Conan, will have no recognition of that project and it will even disregard Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1984 sequel Conan the Destroyer.

Instead, as Deadline reports, this new film will see Schwarzenegger pick back up his title character directly after the story of the debut 1982 film. A script is said to come from Chris Morgan, who is a regular in the Fast and the Furious franchise, as well writing Universal’s upcoming 47 Ronin. T

The studio is also looking to fast-track the project with a summer 2014 release, so expect a director to get attached soon. As Schwarzenegger heads back into Hollywood, he is seemingly making a big mark as this would be his fourth major tentpole action movie (and that’s not even including The Expendables films). Check out extensive quotes from Fredrik Malmberg, who is producing with Morgan, regarding this update below as we wait for more details.

The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. t’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.

After the original seminal movie, all that came after looked silly to me. Robert E. Howard’s mythology and some great philosophy from Nietzsche to Atilla the Hun was layered in the original film. People say, he didn’t speak for the first 20 minutes of the film, but that was calculated in depicting this man who takes control of life with his own hand. This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.

Are you looking forward to seeing Schwarzenegger return to this role?
