Actor Zac Efron failed to wow audiences with his performance in the poorly received thriller The Paperboy, but that hasn’t stopped the Disney heartthrob from seeking out more “edgy” projects.
According to TheWrap, The Lucky One star has taken the lead Fox’s true-crime drama, Narc, which is described as a “collegiate take on Donnie Brasco.” Garrett Meyer is writing the screenplay, which follows a frat president and lacrosse captain who becomes an undercover informant for the police after he gets busted with cocaine. Narc is one of a variety of films that Efron signed onto this year, including the JFK assassination drama Parkland, the romantic comedy Are We Officially Dating?, and the action thriller Autobahn.
Overseeing the film are We Bought a Zoo producers Julie and Rick Yorn, along with executive producers Doug Banker and Jason Barrett, and co-producer Matthew Reilly. No production or release date is set for Narc.
Based on the description, do you think Efron can carry a film like Narc?
