As we laid out in a 2013 preview, our interest in Pixar’s upcoming Monsters University is tepid at best. Like many, we were charmed by Monsters, Inc. over a decade below, but the idea of spending a few hours at college with Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan’s (John Goodman) doesnt exactly instill a sense of narrative wonder, but as long as its simply entertaining it should be a step above from their recent features. It looks like Walt Disney is having similar doubts, however, as they’ve released a expansive feature many months before the film arrives this summer to generate more buzz.
Led by director Dan Scanlon, he highlights the bulk of the plot as well as the many new characters and additional footage, but before that, we’ve got some confirmation on another Pixar project. After being rumored last fall, Coming Soon has confirmed the title of Pete Docter‘s Up follow-up, which was previously going under The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind. Described as a film that “place inside of a girl’s mind and it is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” the project can be officially confirmed as Inside Out and set for a release in June 2015. While we wait over three years for that one, check out the Monsters University featurette below, thanks to Collider.
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).
Monsters University arrives on June 21st.
