After taking home the Best Picture award with The King’s Speech last year, The Weinstein Company is clearly looking repeat success with their late 2011 slate. One of their biggest contenders is The Artist, a black-and-white silent film from Michel Hazanavicius. I’ll actually be checking out the film tonight, but we loved it at Cannes, calling it “amazing that in this day and age, and in an industry dominated by big budget and special effects, that a film like The Artist can disarm viewers with its overflowing charm.”
Check out our full review here and click here for our interview with director Hazanavicius and actress Berenice Bejo from Cannes. She is joined by Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller and Missi Pyle, and you can see the new trailer below via Apple.
Synopsis:
Hollywood 1927. George Valentin is a very successful silent movie star. The arrival of talking pictures will mark the end of his career. Peppy Miller, a young woman extra, becomes a major movie star.
The Artist will hit theaters on November 23rd, 2011 after another showing at TIFF next month.
