When it comes to the summer movie slate, there’s only a handful of tentpole films we have yet to see any trailers for, including Elysium, the 300 prequel and R.I.P.D.. Before today, one of the biggest was James Mangold‘s new take on The Wolverine. While Hugh Jackman returns to the role, this one completely (and rightfully) forgets Gavin Hood‘s 2009 film and sees Logan head east.
Following some snippets of footage, the first theatrical trailer has landed today ahead of it’s theatrical showings with G.I. Joe: Retaliation. While I’ve always appreciated Mangold’s ability to jump from genre to genre, this looks to be your mostly standard blockbuster offering, but at least seemingly a step up from from Origins. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Brian Tee.
Update: Check out an improved domestic trailer below:
Synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
The Wolverine lands on July 26th.
