After director Oren Peli broke out with one of the most profitable films of all-time, Paranormal Activity, we actually haven’t seen him directly behind the camera since then. He was behind their two follow-ups (as well as a another coming from Zack Estrin, writer of The River, also produced by Peli), as well as the smash success Insidious. For his next producing effort, Chernobyl Diaries, it is a film that was only just announced late last year, but due to the found-footage format, they can be quickly put together and is now set to hit theaters in just two months.

Directed by Bradley Parker, who comes from VFX work on films like Let Me In and Fight Club, it follows a group of dumb humans who go into an area they shouldn’t and get haunted by radioactive beings. I’m completely tired of horror films in this genre (see Chronicle for a good example of how it can be used), so this trailer does little to excite. Although, some of the shots do not appear to be found footage, so we’ll see as we get more info. Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Synopsis:

Follows a group of friends who become stranded in an eerie and desolate city. Abandoned years before in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster, nature has begun to reclaim everything. As the sun sets on this radioactive ghost town, inhuman cries cut through the night air. It seems they are not alone.

Chernobyl Diaries hits theaters May 25th.
