Before we get to the actual news, if you haven’t seen Toy Story 3 yet, run to your nearest theater. It single-handily redeems this mediocre summer film season. It is an emotional, heart-pumping, vibrant, hilarious, dark, bittersweet finale that anyone in the world can enjoy, well except Armond White. I’ve never been so moved by an animated film and the more I replay it in my mind, the more it outdoes the rest of the excellent Pixar library. Now, for the real news.

Director Lee Unkrich tweeted that this is not the last time we will be seeing these characters, as a short before Cars 2 next summer is planned. He followed it up more with MSN:

“I really tried my best to end the story of Andy and his toys and bring that story to a close in a really nice way at the end of this film. That being said, we know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely. I don’t know that there would ever be a ‘[Toy Story] 4.’ We don’t have any plans for one — but we are trying to find ways to keep the characters alive. We have announced we’re going to do a short film in front of ‘Cars 2′ that uses the ‘Toy Story’ characters. We’re going to keep them alive; they’re not going away forever.”

Cars 2 hits theaters June 24th, 2011 and you can need to see Toy Story3 in theaters everywhere starting today. After you see the film check out some neat Easter Egg guides on /Film and Coming Soon.
