Last week we reported that Eddie Redmayne had been cast in in Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming adaptation of the Michael Murpurgo‘s childrens novel War Horse. That rumor was shot down by Risky Biz but The Playlist is sticking to their story. Now we have our first official cast confirmation.
The Wrap reports that Thor star Tom Hiddleston will be one of the leads. Hiddleston will see his breakout role in Kenneth Branagh‘s Thor as adopted brother and nemesis Loki and will follow it up Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers. Rumblings say he “steals the show.” He will also be seen in Woody Allen‘s Midnight In Paris.
The film revolves around a young man named Albert and his horse named Joey. They share a bond that is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry for use in WWI. Albert, who is too young to enlist in the Army, heads to France to save his horse and it is there that the journey begins.
War Horse is slated for August 2011 and Spielberg’s other film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn is set for December 2011.
What do you think of the casting?
