Now that the Harry Potter franchise is at an end, the three main actors are making some bold career choices to try to create life outside of the wizardry that has defined their lives in the public up til now. Daniel Radcliffe took on Broadway and can next be seen as Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings. Emma Watson‘s juggling classes at Brown and roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring. Now Rupert Grint‘s taking on two new projects: The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman with Shia LaBeouf and CBGB with Professor Snape-I mean, Alan Rickman. [Variety]
The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman will have LaBeouf star as a regular guy who falls in love with a girl who’s already being pursued by a ruthless mobster. Fredrik Bond will direct based off a script by Matt Drake. Evan Rachel Wood is reportedly set to co-star, potentially as the girl in question. Grint’s role is currently unknown. CBGB tells the tale of the legendary New York live-music club that hosted such punk and New Wave stars as the Ramones and Blondie. Rickman will star as Hilly Kristal, the club’s owner, and Grint will play Cheetah Chrome, guitarist for The Dead Boys.
The projects are polar opposites, which might actually be what Grint’s looking for. He already has a myriad of different roles in his future: he has The Drummer with Chloe Moretz, a voice-acting part in Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re The One with David Tennant, and will play the lead in the Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards biopic. And while I was never overly fond of Ron Weasley, Grint always managed to keep me entertained with his humor, and showed particular talent in the indie Driving Lessons. I’m definitely interested in seeing how Grint fares in the future and these are two promising steps forward.
What do you think of Grint’s casting in these films?
