In a case of one attractive, talented and up-and-coming actress replacing another, Rose Byrne, scene-stealer in Bridesmaids earlier this year, will take over the role of wife to Bradley Cooper‘s cop-turned-politician in Derek Cianfrance‘s Blue Valentine follow-up The Place Beyond The Pines. The part was originally intended for Greenberg star Greta Gerwig, who was forced to finally turn it down due to conflicts with promotion for another film (Whit Stillman‘s long-awaited Damsels in Distress) of hers [Vulture].
The film also stars Ryan Gosling as a motorcycle rider-cum-bank robber, who Cooper’s character is determined to take down. Gerwig’s been busy lately, co-starring in Russell Brand’s Arthur earlier this year as well as Ivan Reitman-directed No Strings Attached. She was once linked Greenberg director Noah Baumbach‘s next film While We’re Young but has since dropped out due to…scheduling conflicts.
Byrne is not much less busy. She’s offered dramatic depth to some semi-shallow parts over the last few years (Sunshine, X-Men:First Class) while proving her comedic chops in films like Bridesmaids and Get Him To The Greek, which also starred Russell Brand. And let us not forget her part in this year’s biggest horror hit thus far, Insidious.
Which actress would you have rather seen play a politician’s wife?
