Aside from shooting almost every Coen brothers film, cinematographer Roger Deakins keeps his projects quite selective. Last year he did The Company Men, in addition to True Grit, and the year before was just A Serious Man. The only project on the horizon is Andrew Niccol‘s sci-fi thriller Now, which sees a release this fall. Collider interviewed this director of photography and got a hint at what he may do next.
Deakins, who will hopefully get his deserved Oscar this year with True Grit, has worked with Sam Mendes before, on both Jarhead (pictured above) and Revolutionary Road (pictured to the side). He doesn’t confirm his commitment, but told the outlet that he will “probably” work with Mendes again on Bond 23, and repeats that statement later in the interview. That’s all we really have to go on now, but with nothing coming up for Deakins, let’s hope he gets his schedule clear. This is certainly a change of thought from what he said over a year ago on his (excellent) forum:
I am sure Sam will do something very interesting with the project and he has a world of great cinematographers to choose from.
Daniel Craig and Judi Dench return in their roles, while Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes are both rumored to join. Shooting begins this fall for a November 9th, 2012 release.
What do you think about Deakins possibly shooting Bond 23? Are you a fan of his work with Mendes?
