While franchises and film trilogies are usually reserved for summer tentpoles and major moneymakers, amongst the indie film circle, there’s rarely a more sought after series in need of continuation than Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Featuring exquisite conversations Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, the series has been oft-rumored to have a follow-up for quite some time.

We heard about plans last fall, and now while doing press for his sexual thriller The Woman in the Fifth, Hawke revealed to Indiewire that they’re “going to shoot that this summer” and it will certainly be “fun.” Those looking for more details will be sorely disappointed as Hawke expanded, “

I’ve gotten into trouble, so I’m sworn to secrecy. The biggest change between this one and the last one is the Internet. The first time we did it, we didn’t have any pressure; nobody gave a shit.”

With it being eight years since the last entry, Linklater’s limited release success Bernie could be enough to push this into reality. With the small cast and lack of expansive locations, one can’t imagine the production for this would be too difficult to get going. We just need to get a worthy script for our leads to improv off, so let’s hope all this waiting time has been put to good use. If you’re in need for more natural Delpy goodness, her 2 Days in New York hit theaters this summer and you can read our positive Sundance review here while we wait on more news for Before Skyfall..or something else.

Do you want to see another film in the series? Where should it take place?
