While audiences may not be saying, “Please, sir, I want some more,” Hollywood can’t go more than a handful of years without returning to a beloved piece of source material. For the latest, Sony Pictures is attempting to give us another take on the Charles Dickens’ classic novel Oliver Twist, but this time with a twist of its own.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has set Cole Haddon (creator of NBC’s Dracula) on Dodge and Twist, a film that follows our main character and his pickpocketing cohort Artful Dodger. In this version, it’s 20 years down the road from the Dickens tale and we follow the duo as rivals on opposite sides of the law as they battle for Crown Jewels.

An Oliver Twist action blockbuster? This one is said to bring to mind Guy Ritchies Sherlock Holmes and The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Matt Tolmach will produce the project, so if that doesn’t lose your interest already, we’re not sure what will. I hate to rag on projects that are in the development stage, but we’ll take the David Lean take over this one any day, or even the 2005 version from Roman Polanski (and yes, that photo above of the 2007 TV version does feature a pre-Bronson Tom Hardy, in case you were wondering).

Which version of Oliver Twist have you enjoyed? What do you think of this project?
