The latest news on Chris Nolan’s third Batman film is that the mangled mug of Two-Face (formerly Harvey Dent) will not appear in the awkwardly titled The Dark Knight Rises.
Nolan broke the news to Aaron Eckhart on a stormy day on a beach, “I said, ‘Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I’m in the next ‘Batman.’ And Chris said, ‘Yes?’ I said, ‘Am I?’ And he looked at me and he said, ‘No.’… I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on…We had a great movie. I’m so honored to be a part of that movie. I know Chris has got something in store that is going to blow everybody away.”
Always the masterful scene-setter, of course Nolan took his former white knight to a beach before he told him, yes – it’s over. I imagine after Nolan’s “No” the wind picks up a bit and cold drops of rain fall upon Eckhart’s trembling chin. Nolan then strokes his golden hair, and tells him their time together was wonderful, but he has to move on to a less gross-looking villain. Then the music swells!
