There’s a more than a few reasons why Black Panther is arriving with more anticipation than past Marvel releases, and one of them has to do with something most blockbusters since the 90s don’t do any more: a curated soundtrack featuring top artists (come on, who doesn’t know every word to Godzilla: The Album?). Kendrick Lamar has co-produced with Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and curated the album for Ryan Coogler’s superhero film, and it’s already available a week before the release of the film.
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director,” Lamar says. “The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.” Clocking in at nearly 50 minutes over 14 tracks, it features Lamar throughout, as well as Anderson .Paak, James Blake, Vince Staples, Future, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, SZA, Khalid, 2 Chainz, and more. Listen below and return for our review next week.
