Update: Bay‘s website confirms that Wahlberg has taken a role in the fourth installment, with the director calling him “the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.” You can read the original story below.
Let’s be honest: it doesn’t matter which celebrity is in the next Transformers nor what the story will be — those who are planning to see it, will see it regardless and everyone else will stay home. Considering how much money the franchise brings in for Paramount a fourth film is priority for them, and while we’ve heard the Michael Bay blockbuster will head in a different path — losing its previous stars — no new talent has been confirmed yet. However, we got word late last month that Bay’s Pain & Gain star Mark Wahlberg was looking to re-team for the project, but then it was quickly denied by the director himself as he confirmed they were indeed talking, but not for Transformers 4.
Now it looks like some rumors started to seep into Bay’s head, as FirstShowing picked up a blog post from the director a week ago (perhaps Sandy made everyone gloss over it) that indicates some of this “internet chatter” is making some ideas bounce back. In no way is this a confirmation of Wahlberg’s involvement, but it’s a hint he could be worked into the evolving story. Check out the blog post below.
I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be staring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.
Transformers 4 will open on June 27th, 2014.
