We got our first look late last month, but now a new batch of images have arrived for the next adaptation of Leo Tolstoy‘s Anna Karenina. After getting some action out of his system with Hanna, director Joe Wright returns to more comfortable territory after helming Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. Re-teaming with Keira Knightley and a script by Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) the ensemble cast includes Aaron Johnson, Jude Law, Matthew Macfadyen, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Macdonald and Emily Watson. The stills below via Focus Features reveal the expected elegant touch coming from Wright and I’m especially liking the production design with the train station in the scene below. Check them all out while we wait for an exact release date.
Synopsis:
The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.
Anna Karenina will arrive in the UK this September with a US bow likely to follow soon after.
What do you think of the new stills?
