According to a Telegraph interview found on In Contention Rourke says:
“I don’t watch anything until three, four, five years go by,” he said in an interview.
“I see myself every day in the mirror when I’m shaving. I don’t get anything from it.”
The whole time I was watching The Wrestler I was wondering what Rourke would think of the film since it paints a pretty endearing and sad portrait of a life similar to his. The news that he hasn’t seen it kinda surprises me. I’m hoping Rourke wins the Oscar, but I’m afraid Sean Penn may take it from him.
