THR is reporting Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, Jonah Hex) will play the villain in the upcoming thriller Premium Rush, directed and co-written by David Koepp (Ghost Town, Secret Window). Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer, Inception) will be joined by female lead Jamie Chung (Sorority Row, Grown Ups).

The film “centers on a New York bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, only to be chased throughout the city by a dirty cop (Shannon) desperate to get his hands on it.” Chung plays “Gordon-Levitt’s ex, a fellow daredevil bike messenger who helps him outwit the cop.”

It sounds like really standard fare, but with Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon make me hope for something great. I disliked Koepp’s last feature Ghost Town, as it played everything so safe and wasted Ricky Gervais. But considering he is the writer behind Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, War of the Worlds and Spider-Man I’m very much looking forward to an action thriller.

What do you think about Premium Rush and its recent cast additions?
