Mark Duplass (The Puffy Chair), one of the writer/director/actors behind the indie mumblecore film movement, has joined the cast of Alex Kurtzman‘s Welcome to People.

The DreamWorks film tells the story of a young man (Chris Pine) who is instructed by his father’s will to hand-deliver $150,000 to a sister (Elizabeth Banks) he never knew he had. Olivia Wilde plays the man’s girlfriend, with Michelle Pfeiffer on board as his mother.

Amy Adams and Hilary Swank are both rumored to be in consideration for another main role. [GATW]

Duplass, who currently has a starring role on the FX comedy The League, will play a neighbor with a crush on Banks’s character.

The Welcome to People script was written by Kurtzman and Roberto Orci -the same team behind the Star Trek and Transformers reboots- with Jody Lambert. It will be interesting to see how they do outside familiar sci-fi territory. We won’t know anytime soon, though. The film is slated for release sometime in 2012.
