When you’re a modestly-budgeted feature that favors ideas over setpieces, it might be difficult to grab attention during the summer season. However, Alex Garland has done just that with his directorial debut, Ex Machina, garnering enough attention to earn a wide release. While we’ve discussed the film at-length (and chatted with the director), today brings another great conversation.
Led by Edgar Wright (who recently cast Cinderella star Lily James opposite Ansel Elgort in his forthcoming musical thriller Baby Driver), he chatted with Garland about his inspirations, ranging from Walter Hill to Michael Crichton. They also chat about how soon we might see the technology from Ex Machina in real life and more. Check out the conversation below (via HitFix) as well as more extensive interviews with Garland and a recently released red band trailer.
