Lionsgate already has Mr. and Mrs Smith-esque Katherine Heigl/Ashton Kutcher starrer Killers in the the bag, releasing June 4th, so why not bank on the future success of one of the most financially successful actresses working today?

Exactly. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the Gate of Lions has picked up the domestic distribution rights for Heigl’s next film, an adaptation of Janet Evanovich’s best-selling novel One For The Money. The novel tells the story of Stephanie Plum, an out-of-work woman who ends up getting involved in the bounty hunter business to pay the bills. It’s funny, action-packed stuff.

And Heigl, it must be said, feels perfect for it.

Evanovich’s book is also the beginning of a loooong (over 15) series of Plum stories. Perfect for studio Hollywood.

Do you know Evanovich? Plum? Will Heigl make for a good bounty hunter? Better than Butler/Aniston?
