According to Keanu “Ted” Reeves himself, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon‘s script for Bill & Ted 3 in six weeks away from being finished. Reeves and Alex “Bill” Winter first got together in the most excellent 1989 sci-fi stoner comedy, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. We last saw them in the 1991 follow-up, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
In an interview with MTV for his new film, Henry’s Crime (in theaters April 8), a bearded Reeves revealed a tantalizing bit of information about the third Bill & Ted movie’s premise:
In Reeves’s words:
When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.
As Bleeding Cool points out, this synopsis leaves us with more questions than answers. How is Bill and Ted being more than 20 years older going to factor into the plot? Rufus (George Carlin), a huge player in the first two movies, obviously can’t come into play since Carlin died in 2008. Or can he? He did, after all, spend most of Bogus Journey in disguise.
For the answers to these questions and more we’ll just have to wait a while- except those of you with time traveling phone booths. The rest of us will have to enjoy the musical stylings of the Wyld Stallyns:
Remember, be excellent to each other.
