Hot on the heels of the latest rumor involving Mark Boal and Kathryn Bigelow‘s Untitled Black-Ops collaboration, Variety (who falsely reported this mysterious flick would center on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden) now says the picture has been greenlit by Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures and is set to shoot this summer.
This seems to fall in line with reports that this $10 mil feature will be shot before Bigelow and Boal dive into their big-budget Triple Frontier this Fall. While the exact plotline for this low-budget motion picture is still incredibly murky, Variety reveals:
[The] Project is based on the true story of a U.S. military black ops mission, the ramifications of which are still being felt around the world. The film took shape after Boal obtained classified information while researching the project. Locations are being scouted, and casting will begin in the coming weeks while Boal finishes the script.
“This is an exciting, involving story in the tradition of the best film thrillers,” declares Ellison. “That it is fact-based makes it all the more relevant and fascinating for a worldwide audience.”
So what’s it about? Where will they shoot? Who will star?
It seems that Bigelow and Boal are working hard to keep the details of this reality-based thriller under wraps, and to be honest – I’m pulling for them. Part of what made The Hurt Locker so exciting and affecting is that I didn’t know what to expect going in. It’ll be interesting to see if/how all this pre-shoot attention affects this dynamic duo’s upcoming productions.
What are your hopes for the next Bigelow and Boal project?
