At least it doesn’t appear to be another fluffy romantic comedy; Deadline reports that Patrick Wilson and Katherine Heigl have signed on to co-star in North of Hell, a dark comedy from writer/director Anthony Burns (2010’s Skateland). Wilson will play a well-to-do businessman named Don Champage who’s perfect life also includes an overly obsessive and controlling wife (Heigl). Richard Kelly‘s Darko Entertainment is producing North of Hell, which begins production in Louisiana next month.

Heigl is probably my least favorite actress working today (and for good reason), so any movie that announces her as part of the cast invokes my gag reflex relatively easy. The addition of Wilson, however, is interesting and the fact that is more of a dark comedy than Heigl’s usual romantic fluff gives me a little bit of hope. Will Heigl actually step out of her comfort zone and try something different? Check out a trailer for Burns’ previous film, Skateland, below and we can expect this one to land in 2014.

Any thoughts on North of Hell? Am I being too hard on Katherine Heigl?
