Much of the publicity surrounding Paul Schrader‘s latest feature, the partially crowd-sourced erotic Los Angeles-set drama The Canyons, has much more to do with the mechanics behind its creation and other buzz-generating aspects than the film itself. Judging from our review, perhaps this is the best route for the distributors to take and now they’ve upped the ante by letting one of the world’s greatest news generators get involved.

Bret Easton Ellis collaborator Kanye West, through his company DONDA, has unleashed his own version of the theatrical trailer for the Lindsay Lohan-led film. According to Pitchfork, Yeezus himself worked with Nate Brown to not only re-edit the trailer, but pop in his own music, a track he produced with Noah Goldstein. It’s an effective, escalating piece, but will likely disappoint those who are expecting this sort of style in the feature. Check it out below.

The Canyons hits VOD today (streaming info here) and is in limited theaters.

What do you think of Kanye’s take?
