After premiering the authentic relationship drama Keep the Lights On (reviewed here) at Sundance Film Festival last year, writer-director Ira Sachs will return to theaters in 2014 with his follow-up, Love is Strange. Led by John Lithgow (who replaced Michael Gambon) and Alfred Molina, the project finds the actors playing a NYC-based couple who decided to wed after a 38-year-relationship.

The first image has now landed, coming from Variety, which can be seen above. “This is a sweet film, and I found two actors who, in a way, some of their best-known work has been playing gay men,” Sachs told the trade. “Really, what I got was two of the best actors of their generation who responded emotionally to the story that was told.” He also says the still above is from early on in the film and “the consequences of this marriage is one of the men loses his job, and that sets off the rest of the events.” Also starring Marisa Tomei and Cheyenne Jackson, we expect another trip to Park City is in store for Sachs.
