Considering Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class will come out one year and one week from today they aren’t wasting any time casting. Heat Vision is reported that Atonement and Wanted star James McAvoy will take over Patrick Stewart‘s shoes and “has signed on to play a young Charles Xavier, aka Professor X.” Great choice, I love McAvoy and I think he would be perfect the role.

As we already know, First Class will “chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”

X-Men: First Class starts production this summer in London for a June 3rd, 2011 release. No other cast is known at this time.

Are you excited for another X-Men? What about McAvoy as Xavier?
