As big tentpole films limp along in this age of comic-book movies and board game adaptations, don’t underestimate the power of a pitch. 20th Century Fox is in early talks with Will Staples (one of Activision’s Call of Duty writers, who has since worked on a variety of A-list projects) to develop a pitch of his called Myth. [THR]
What’s it about?
Nothing is known about Myth other than it’s big, it’s sci-fi, and it’s got lots of action.
And really, what else do we need from our big-budget sci-fi spectacles? This thing is in it’s very early stages, and the first names associated with the project are Avatar writer-director James Cameron, his blue-skinned star of that film Sam Worthington, and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Those names will almost certainly change as the film develops. Cameron always has something going on, be it the Avatar sequel or re-inflicting Titanic on us all again, but this time in 3-D. Worthington has dived into the tentpole shit-pool with absolutely no shame. And di Bonaventura is restlessly busy, having given us some solid action flicks with Red and Salt, he’s got the Transformers: Dark on the Moon on the way, with Man on a Ledge (with Sam Worthington, who will hopefully confirm our suspicions that the guy actually can act when given a chance), The Last Stand and Delivering Gen in the pipeline.
I know there is nothing to go on, but would you see a big sci-fi movie written by one of the guys who writes those awful cut-scenes in the Call of Duty games? Why or why not?
