Just last week Vulture was confident that Woody Harrelson was in talks to play Head Gamemaker Seneca Crane in Gary Ross’ Hunger Games adaptation, which is set to star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. Yet, now the Playlist has revealed that Wes Bentley (best remembered as the slightly creepy/slightly dreamy teen videographer of American Beauty) has come out of left field to snag the role of the chief engineer of the gruesome spectacle that is the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

Also joining this dystopian adventure is a slew of unknowns, filling the roles of tributes from Districts 6, 7, and 8. Ashton Moio and Kara Petersen, who both have notable experience in stunts, will represent District 6. Sam Ly and Leigha Hancock will take the roles of District 7, and Mackenzie Lintz and Samuel Tan have signed on to play District 8’s tributes.

Still to be cast are the tributes of districts 10, 9 and 2, a handful of roles for the residents of Katniss’ home – District 12 , the vicious President Snow, the fan-adored fashion designer Cinna, and the gruff mentor to Katniss and Peeta, Hamish. My guess is Lionsgate will continue to tease with these small roles before divulging who’s been set to play Haymitch, a role fans are desperate for them to get right.

What do you make of this latest round of casting news? Who do you want to see play Haymitch?
