With a March 25th release date planned in the United Kingdom, auteur Werner Herzog‘s documentary about the Chauvet caves of Southern France and the earliest known human markings, another Herzog doc has been announced: Death Row, a film concerning, wait for it, death row inmates. The man’s never known how to slow down, after all.
He was unable to attend the Berlin International Film Festival screening of Caves because of the current production of this new doc, which is shooting in a prison in Houston, Texas, based on a phone interview between Herzog and Screen Daily.
Herzog has five death row subjects, four men and a woman; four are based in Texas, one in Florida. All of this is happening while the man still tries to secure funding for his desert epic Queen Of The Desert, which still has Naomi Watts attached to star. According to the director, Death Row will contain little music and narration, suggesting something more subtle than his recent docs Encounters At The End Of The World and Grizzly Man.
