Making a first step in Hollywood can be a difficult one, but despite its questionable quality, Tommy Wirkola‘s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters must have Paramount pleased. Riding in on bad buzz after it was delayed nearly a year, the shlocky actioner has recently crossed the $125 million mark at the worldwide box office as it continues its run. For Wirkola’s next project, however, Hollywood isn’t calling.
ScreenDaily instead reports the director will be returning to his home country of Norway to return to the property that made him known in the first place. He’ll be helming a follow-up to his 2009 cult hit Dead Snow titled Dead Snow: War of the Dead.
Spoilers for the first film, but this second story is said to follow the “sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack who battles an even larger army of Zombies with the help of the Zombie Squad, a professional gang of zombie killers from the US.”
Wirkola has been stewing with this idea for some time, but admitted he wanted to wait until his Hollywood debut was out before committing to another project. He even adds that this one is “bigger, scarier, funnier, more action-filled and gorier” than his last effort, so if zombie Nazis are your sort of thing, it looks like you can’t go wrong here.
Production kicks off this summer for a likely 2014 release.
