The Playlist is reporting that Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, The Book of Eli) will star in Tomas Alfredson‘s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, a thriller on which production will begin this September. The film, an adaptation of John Le Carre‘s Cold War thriller, will be Alfredson‘s follow-up to the brilliant Let the Right One In. Colin Firth (A Single Man), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, Fish Tank), and David Thewlis are also in negotiations to join the cast.
The Le Carre novel has been adapted by Peter Morgan, who seemingly hasn’t hit a false note yet. From The Queen to Frost/Nixon, Morgan‘s work has been consistently excellent. His proven expertise with period dramas only adds to the credibility of this project. The producers currently attached to the project are Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Atonement, Frost/Nixon).
Oldman‘s character is named George Smiley, a British spy who is asked to dig out a Soviet mole in the British Intelligence Services. Smiley is described as a “breathtakingly ordinary, anti-James Bond”-type protagonist.
Does this project have any potential weak spots?
