Coming off Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, director Jon M. Chu is making the natural next step in his career and directing a sequel to Stephen Sommers‘ G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. Kidding aside, this actually looks to be a perfect fit for the man who was able to make dancing exciting in the Step Up series.
It looks like he is also able to stage a proper action scene in the first trailer for G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. Judging by just this piece, it looks like Dwayne Johnson is stepping in as our lead for Channing Tatum, who has barely a line here. And of course Bruce Willis has to be in this with his cringe-worthy “I’m too old for this sh*t, but I’m still doing it!” shtick.
All I ask from this film is that it has a sense of fun Sommers showed for a brief second during the car chase in his film. And it looks to have that, especially in a mountain-side cliff fight scene. We also have a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, so there is some promise there. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung and Walton Goggins.
Synopsis:
The G.I. Joe team faces off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence.
G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation hits theaters June 29th, 2012.
