As the summer season approaches, many of us will be planning exotic getaways or quick vacations to enjoy the weather. But for the trio of main characters in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ The Kings of Summer, they desire an extreme version of a particular kind of freedom. After a quick teaser, we’ve now got the first full-length trailer for the coming of age film, which opens up this story of the Sundance hit.

In our review we remarked that the comedy is “filled with compelling imagery and kinetic editing,” but for a “film clearly attempting to hit the funnybone, the script only comes off amusing and doesn’t often hit a comedic stride.” We still recommend checking it out and one can see the trailer below for the film starring Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Alison Brie and Mary Lynn Rajskub.

Synopsis:

Premiering to rave reviews at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, THE KINGS OF SUMMER is a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends – Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias) – who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family – whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can’t run away from.

The Kings of Summer arrives on May 31st.
